NTS MCQs, mock tests & preparation
National Testing Service (NAT, GAT & recruitment tests). NTS runs NAT for university admissions, GAT for postgraduate admissions and many recruitment tests. Most papers mix verbal, quantitative and analytical reasoning with subject knowledge.
What’s in the NTS
- Verbal (English)
- Quantitative (maths)
- Analytical reasoning
- Subject knowledge
What NTS conducts
The National Testing Service (NTS) conducts admission tests for many universities and recruitment tests for public and private organisations. Its best-known tests are the National Aptitude Test (NAT) for undergraduate admission and the Graduate Assessment Test (GAT) for MS/MPhil and PhD admissions.
NAT has had 90 MCQs in two hours: verbal (English), quantitative (maths) and analytical reasoning sections, plus a subject section based on your intermediate group (pre-medical, pre-engineering, ICS, commerce, arts and others). GAT General tests verbal, quantitative and analytical reasoning; GAT Subject tests your specialised field.
Sections explained
Verbal: sentence completion, analogies, antonyms, synonyms, error correction and reading comprehension. Quantitative: arithmetic, percentages, ratios, algebra, geometry and data interpretation at Matric level. Analytical reasoning: short scenario puzzles (seating, scheduling, grouping) and logical deductions.
How to prepare
Practise each section separately until you are accurate, then together under time. Analytical reasoning is the section most students fear but it improves fastest with practice — learn to draw a quick diagram for each scenario. Review explanations for every mistake and keep a list of new words for the verbal section.
FAQ
