SAT MCQs, mock tests & preparation

SAT (digital). The digital SAT is used for undergraduate admissions, mainly in the USA. It has two sections — Reading and Writing, and Math — with adaptive modules.

What’s in the SAT

Digital SAT format

The SAT, run by the College Board, is used for undergraduate admission in the United States and many other countries. Since 2023 for international students the SAT is fully digital and taken on the Bluebook app.

It has two sections. Reading and Writing has 54 short questions in 64 minutes; Math has 44 questions in 70 minutes, and a built-in graphing calculator is allowed throughout. Each section is split into two modules, and the difficulty of the second module adapts to how you did in the first. The total time is about two hours and fourteen minutes and scores range from 400 to 1600.

What is tested

Reading and Writing covers information and ideas, craft and structure (vocabulary in context, text structure, cross-text connections), expression of ideas and standard English conventions such as punctuation and grammar. Math covers algebra, advanced math (non-linear functions and equations), problem-solving and data analysis, and geometry and trigonometry.

How to prepare

Practise topic by topic first, then take full-length adaptive practice tests in Bluebook. Learn to use the built-in calculator efficiently. For Reading and Writing, focus on reading each short passage carefully and choosing the option the text actually supports. There is no penalty for wrong answers, so answer every question.
