NUST Entry Test (NET) pattern
NUST holds its Entry Test (NET) several times a year as a computer-based test at centres across Pakistan and abroad. Candidates may sit more than one series and the best score counts.
For engineering and computing the test has had 200 MCQs in three hours: Mathematics about 40%, Physics 30%, Chemistry or Computer Science 15% and English 15%. Business, social sciences and other programmes use different subject mixes. There is no negative marking. Check the NUST admissions site for the current pattern and merit weightage.
Merit and weightage
NUST merit is calculated from the NET score together with SSC and HSSC marks (with the NET carrying the largest share). Because so many applicants compete for few seats, a few extra correct answers in NET can move you up hundreds of places.
How to prepare
Mathematics is the biggest section: master calculus, functions, analytic geometry, vectors, trigonometry, sequences and series, and probability. In Physics, focus on numericals from mechanics, electricity and magnetism. The English section has vocabulary, analogies, sentence completion and short comprehension.
Because the test is on a computer, practise on screen, not only on paper. Use timed online mocks so you get used to reading from the screen, flagging questions and managing three hours.
